I love to read, and at any given moment I can have a number of books on my bedside table. They vary from romance to historical to self help. These are just a few of the titles that have kept me awake late at night doing one of my favorite things in the world — snuggling under a nice down comforter and reading a great book.

Marcia’s Book List:

A Soldier of the Great War by Mark Helprin (All time favorite!)

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

I’ve Been Thinking by Maria Shriver

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

No One Can Pronounce My Name by Rakesh Satyal

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

The Brain by David Eagleman

The Art of Discarding by Nagisa Tatsumi

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Marcia Gay Harden visits Strand on May 2nd!

Marcia Gay Harden knew at an early age that her life would be anything but ordinary. As one of five lively children born into a military family, she found herself moved around often, eventually ending up off the coast of Japan. It was here that her mother found calm in her hectic and child-filled life in Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Marcia had by then founder her role as a mischief-maker and storyteller, yet was also drawn to the flowers.

Told through the imagery of Ikebana, one of America’s most revered actors ventures through the different seasons of her mother’s life, and tells her own story as a young girl, and how, together, they are facing her mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

On May 2nd, join Marcia Gay Harden in Strand’s Rare Book Room to discuss her book with fellow actor Ellen Burstyn! Tickets are available now.
