Reading can be a challenging and sometimes slow process, especially with more serious academic texts or classics we read for school. Which is why every once in a while, we find ourselves needing a “guilty pleasure” novel to indulge in. They are just as valuable as their more serious counterparts, but they can often have an added element of fun or scandal that can make them more titillating to read and faster to get through. Enjoy this list of guilty pleasure books in public or in private — we won’t tell.

1. Bachelor Nation: Inside the World of America’s Favorite Guilty Pleasure by Amy Kaufman

The book is a deep-dive into how the popular Bachelor show works and why our culture, and in particular so many staunch feminists, can’t stop watching it and its many spin-offs (the fourth of which just recently debuted).

If you love vampires but don’t quite get the Twilight craze, you’ll love this steamy series that became its own HBO show, True Blood.

4. Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

Everyone and their mother decided to explore BDSM after reading this steamy account of one girl and her dominant boss, Christian Grey.
